Search job boards such as Impact Opportunity or Idealist for nonprofits and mission-driven groups. Also, look within your professional fields to find those who are associated with nonprofits through their associations in the field or companies that contribute to them. Contact people who appear to be suitable candidates and ask whether they’re interested in being on your board.

Remember that, just like any other staff member, new board members should receive a thorough orientation to ensure they understand their responsibilities and commitment. This includes a clear list of expectations regarding meeting attendance and schedules, fundraising, the responsibilities that they are entrusted with (e.g. budget management) and other governance policies.
